With some much-needed snowfall finally arriving in Aspen, nearly half of the total trails across the four Aspen ski mountains are open.
Syracuse, N.Y. -- The lake effect snowstorm closing out 2025 was a record-breaker, dropping more than 2 feet of snow in the Syracuse area. As predicted, northwest winds blowing at 50 mph or more over Lake Ontario left a narrow trail of deep snow through Onondaga, Madison and Oneida counties.
The biggest snowfall totals were north and east of New York City, specifically Connecticut and parts of Long Island. This is where the storm primarily performed as expected, with totals of 7-9". Some of the highest snow totals recorded were 9.1" in New Fairfield, Connecticut, and 7.5" in Babylon, New York.

Rain, mountain snowfall persist for West
The pattern of moisture hitting the West continues again with more lower elevation rain and mountain snowfall early this week. Coastal flood watches are in effect across Northern California. The Bay Area has already seen record tide heights.
Snow will be knocking on New York City’s door around 9 p.m. tonight, and likely will start to fall right around midnight to ring in the new year.

Storm breaks Syracuse snowfall records: city’s most snow in 32 years and there’s more to come
Syracuse, N.Y. - Tuesday’s lake effect snowstorm that slammed Central New York broke several snowfall records for Syracuse. As of 5:30 p.m., about 19.3 inches of snow had fallen in Syracuse, a record for Dec. 30 and the eighth-snowiest day in the city’s history, according to the National Weather Service.
This is nothing in comparison to what we have seen already, with upwards of a foot of snow falling in the region. The highest amounts of snowfall were to the Eastern side of the area, while the western side of the region barely saw 1-2 inches of snow with the lowest snowfall report being in Ellenboro at 1.7 inches of snowfall.
