A super-thin Wallpaper set, Micro RGB evolving Mini LED technology and a better competitor to Samsung's Frame TV.

Some of Samsung’s new televisions are larger than what was once considered standard, with a few measuring around 100 inches or more. “Super big screens continue to be the fastest-growing TV segment and the market is expected to double in 2026,” the company told reporters last month ahead of Sunday’s announcement.

This year LG is showing off its manufacturing chops at CES with a new Wallpaper OLED TV that is just 9mm thick.

Before talking about Micro RGB, let’s look at color space and gamut both for HDR, which uses the BT.2020 standard, and SDR, commonly associated with the REC.709 standard. REC.709 is ideal for regular HD content like TV broadcasts and YouTube videos. It can display a limited set of colors and brightness is generally capped at 100 nits.

OLED qualities aside, the Samsung S90D also has all the features you'd want in a gaming TV. It has a native 120Hz panel that can be pushed to as high as 144Hz as well as four total HDMI 2.1 ports for running 4K at 120Hz on a PS5 or Xbox Series X gaming console. Inspired by the Frame TV, Samsung has affixed a metallic back plate to this TV with swappable bezels, which also acts as a zero-gap wall mount. This gives the TV a floating effect when wall-mounted, though it can also be set up with a pair of feet for tabletop use.

LG drove home the point in several discrete demos comparing an “affordable” OLED TV against a rival mini LED television. Mini LED uses standard LCD technology, with roughly 1,500 “block-dimming” chunks spread across the screen; OLED can turn each of the 33 million+ pixels in a 4K display on and off independently.
